Standardized Testing

an option for home educating families

It is vital for homeschooling parents to be aware of the academic strengths and weaknesses of their children. This awareness enables parents to meet their children’s educational needs and ensure that they are equipped with necessary academic skills.

Because of our desire to provide the best service for your family as you raise your children, we are offering the opportunity to participate in a standardized basic skills test. Many home-educating families have experienced the benefits of standardized testing, both in the reassurance of the parents and students of work well done and in the accountability it brings for establishing each student’s basic skills.

We believe it is important for your support that each of your children participates in a standardized basic skills test. After reviewing the benefits and limitations of the major tests available, we have chosen to offer the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills® (for grades 1–8) and the Iowa Tests of Educational Development® (for grades 9–12). These tests are available to you for $35 per test.

About the Iowa Tests

Each test measures the ability of your children to progress at their age level and evaluates their basic skills in the fundamental areas of:

  • Vocabulary
  • Reading
  • Mechanics of Writing
  • Work-Study Skills
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • Science

Tests will be available in the spring and fall. In most states, parents are able to administer the test to their children. However, some states require that a person outside your immediate family administer the test. In either case, we feel your family will benefit from participating in these tests.

Testing Sessions

Dates for future testing sessions will be announced. If you have questions about the standardized testing, please contact us at 630-323-2842.
