Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does WBLA correspond with the Wisdom Booklets?Back to Top

A: The weekly passages, vocabulary words, character focus, writing assignments, and practice sentences are all taken from the Wisdom Booklets or topics suggested in the Parent Guide Planner.

Q: What if the WBLA booklets for the Wisdom Booklet we are studying have not yet been published?Back to Top

A: You do not have to use the WBLA booklet that corresponds with your Wisdom Booklet. Although it is designed to correspond, it is not necessary. You will still receive the full benefits of an all-in-one, multi-level language arts curriculum that is focused on Biblical principles. You can easily adapt the weekly writing assignments to the Wisdom Booklet your family is studying.

Q: What is the Spelling Notebook?Back to Top

A: The Spelling Notebook is a ninety-six-page book that lists all of the word families and phonics rules that WBLA teaches. It is designed to solidify spelling learning by providing “learning hooks” upon which to base the student’s spelling experiences. It uses a word-family/phonetic approach that helps students classify words together with spelling commonalities. This gives the student the advantage of adding prior spelling knowledge (previously recorded words and families) to new spelling words.

The Spelling Notebook may be used in two ways: (1) Students record their spelling words from WBLA onto the corresponding Spelling Notebook pages, and (2) Students record misspelled words from their essays, spelling tests, and dictation quizzes onto the corresponding Spelling Notebook pages.

Your student will use the same Spelling Notebook from grade to grade, adding more words to it each year. If your high school students already spell well, you may not need to start the Spelling Notebook with them.
