Midwifery Program
of the Medical Training Institute of America
Program Overview
Objectives
- To develop in students a desire to glorify God through their midwifery training and ministry
- To train students to see midwifery and women’s health care from God’s perspective
- To equip students to become skilled in analytical and persuasive communication, both written and oral
- To give students a Biblical understanding of each of the seven organ systems of the human body
- To offer three years of academic training involving women’s health and newborn/child care that will result in an academic certificate
- To offer a Mastery of Midwifery certificate to students who meet rigorous practical requirements (including attendance at 75 births in various care-giver capacities)
Scope of Ministry
- MTIA Midwifery Program offers training for the student desiring a ministry as a direct-entry midwife (DEM).*
- Students who complete the Mastery of Midwifery requirements are eligible to sit for the NARM (National Association of Registered Midwives) exam to obtain the title of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).**
- MTIA’s Midwifery Program is also approved by the Texas Department of Health Professional Licensing Division Midwifery Board, which provides additional validation for interested students.
*The scope of practice is confined to home and birth centers, depending on the regulations of each state.
**A CPM should be differentiated from a CNM (one who has an RN degree in addition to midwifery training).
