The Desktop Publishing process uses a computer to lay out and arrange text and graphics and prepare a publication for final printing. Obtain an understanding of the entire publishing process and gain experience in layout and design using QuarkXPress® and Adobe PhotoShop®, two of the most powerful desktop publishing programs available.

Web Design

Web Site Design

Master basic and intermediate web site design techniques including web authoring, graphic design, and image editing! You will learn how to hand code XHTML and CSS with free text editors, such as, Notepad® and Scintilla®—as well as easily design pages in powerful WYSIWIG authoring software, such as Dreamweaver. Design web graphics easily with Fireworks® or Photoshop® from Adobe. The importance of design principles and goal-oriented strategies are emphasized in this course.

Developing Ministry Sites

This new course is being developed to encourage students to build a Web site that provides ministry to others. Focused attention will be given to determining what true discipleship is and how a Web site can be used to build discipleship networks. Discipleship is essentially a one-on-one, person-to-person process, but the Internet can be a tool for aiding the personal interaction. Developing Ministry Sites will begin at a basic level with beginner XHTML and artistic design principles, but it will quickly advance into CSS and the use of relational databases to build powerful methods for discipleship interaction.

Dynamic Business Data

Build competence working with Dreamweavers Dynamic Functions, PHP, and Ruby on Rails. Produce web pages that interact with databases. Learn about database design, writing SQL queries, and more. Imagine building a travel agency site that allows customers to search and retrieve only the information of interest to them and book their own tour, authenticates them when they return, and allows only approved travel agents to update and add new tours.
