New Zealand Ministry

coaching troubled youth in another land

Testimonies

Going to New Zealand was life-changing. It made me realize my need for total dependence on the Lord. It was a challenging time there, but seeing God’s hand working in the lives of the LP’s there far outweighed the challenges.

—Joy Jensen, an Arahina staff member

I have noticed a significantly positive change in [my son’s] behavior…. In the time [he] has been attending Arahina, the team at Buildcom has shown him acceptance and encouragement which were vital to [his] specific needs…. As a counselor, having worked extensively with people with addiction related issues, I would highly recommend the program to families seeking the type of rehabilitation Buildcom offers.

—An LP’s mother

I would like to say a big thank you to all that helped my daughter come home to her mum and family…My relationship with [my daughter] has become what I always dreamt. We have harmony in our home again.

—An LP’s mother

[My student] was completely rebellious, used profanity constantly, and refused to do many of the assignments, whether work or school related. This behavior continued for a full term, which ended with him assaulting a fellow LP. [Later, after the student had run away and then returned]…I shared with him Christ’s love for him and for his life. Since this incident, [he] hasn’t been the same. His countenance has completely changed from a hard, callous look to that of a sensitive and caring person…. He has become the LP that is concerned about his coach and the other coaches around him, even asking forgiveness for things that he has done in the past and for little things that he does throughout the day…. It has been amazing and a testimony to the power of the blood of Christ in a person’s life…. Christ is still working in this young life for the glory of our Father in heaven!

—A Buildcom Coach

While living at Arahina, I became very interested in God. Through studying the Bible…I realized that the Bible was true. I wanted to know more…I prayed for forgiveness and asked the Lord into my heart. I’ll never forget that night. Since I’ve become a Christian I’ve got really nice friends and mum and me and my sisters are getting along a lot better. But best of all, I’ve given up smoking. There is no way on earth I could have done this without God.

—An LP

What is an LP?

LPs” are students for whom school is no longer an option, because of their truancy, violence, or low grades. Usually these students come from broken families where abuse and neglect has precluded many problems such as suicidal tendencies, low self-esteem, experience with drugs and alcohol, illiteracy, violence, and moral failure. Most students are 12–16 years old. The Buildcom coaches disciple “LPs.”
