Professional Labor Support
a course through the Medical Training Institute of America
The Professional Labor Support Course (PLSC) equips women to come alongside expectant families and provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support throughout pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum adjustments.
We invite all ladies to receive training in a Biblical perspective on childbirth and practical guidance for serving childbearing families. We offer an interactive weeklong training conference, filled with practical information and preparation in hands-on skills. This training is useful for any woman who desires to support growing families before, during, and after birth.
For those who want to pursue further study and gain experience as a doula, we invite students to continue with a ten-month home study and practicum. The first four months are primarily academic, requiring approximately 12–15 hours of study per week. The remaining six months are spent in hands-on training by taking part in birth and postpartum support opportunities in the student’s own location. These opportunities include time with labor support professionals, lactation consultants, and childbearing families. Upon completion of this course work, students can obtain 19 credits from The Telos Institute International.
