Life Purpose Planning
discover God’s design for your life
Do you have a purpose statement?
Often we do not understand what we truly think and believe until we write it out. Essentially, a life purpose statement is a one-paragraph summary stating who you feel God is calling you to be and what you believe He is calling you to do. Although a purpose statement may be revised and improved with time, it serves as a constant reminder of what God desires to do in and through you.
Several young adults share their life purpose statements below, along with the steps they are taking today to fulfill their purpose and complete the works that God has ordained for them. “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). “My heart’s desire is to know God in a deep and intimate way, living with an undivided passion for Him. I long to be used in the lives of those who are hurting both physically and spiritually, that I may encourage this passion in them as well. I purpose to assist others in their relationship with the Lord by serving those in the ministry and proclaiming the truths of God through speaking, writing, and discipleship. I will seek to be available to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice.”
David Garabedian, Ontario, Canada
“I purpose to glorify God by enjoying Him forever and delighting greatly in His presence. By putting Jesus Christ on display as supremely valuable, I desire that the entire world may see and savor His glorious and saving power. My desire is to spread this Good News within the nations of India and Armenia. I am committed to learning all I can and acquiring the necessary training to be able to support a family and ministry as I venture out into the mission field, where Jesus Christ will be most glorified when I am most satisfied in Him!”
Charissa James, Georgia
“My heart’s desire is to help oppressed and spiritually blind people love Christ with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. I long to assist others in overcoming their adverse circumstances and in living daily in God’s truth. By God’s grace, I will love them unconditionally and point them to His Word. I desire to accomplish this through writing and counseling, as well as through singing, playing, and composing Christ-centered music.”
Lauren Bell, Texas
“It is my life purpose to grow in the knowledge of Christ and radiate His love and joy to others; to help young ladies grow to maturity in Christ by investing in them through personal time and teaching; to use my skills in the areas of music, decorating, and interacting with leaders to extend the Kingdom of God as He opens doors of opportunity.”
Jared Yates, Florida
“Constrained by the love of God, I desire to love Him supremely and become a vessel of honor through whom He can show his light and power. My life’s purpose is to help the Lord prepare His bride for her Bridegroom by assisting her in becoming unspotted and unwrinkled.
“To achieve this purpose, I desire to strengthen the truth that Christ’s Church should be fully engaged in this world, and yet strive to be holy and separate in this world. I want to demonstrate to the world that God’s power is available to those who truly believe and trust Him. One of my dreams is to help restore the Christian heritage of America. Another desire is to serve the Church by providing quality music through composing, arranging, and conducting.
“By the grace of God, I purpose to instill faithfulness, honor, vision, and the Word of God into my future family, that my children will gain a solid foundation of Christian character and, in turn, pass on these values to their children.”
Elizabeth Warner, Tennessee
“I desire to love God, fear God, and delight in His presence and Word as I endeavor to serve Him with a joyful spirit of transparency and brokenness. I desire to see the Church revived with American Christians living for Christ alone. I purpose to help these Christians keep Christ’s commandments, apply Biblical principles, and take a stand against the sins that plague our society. It is my hope that these revived individuals will choose to remain broken, resulting in family relationships being restored, thus affecting our churches, communities, government, and world. I will strive to encourage this revival through prayer, writing, and personal discipleship.
“I also hope to invest in the lives of the Chinese people and their government leaders by making the salvation and teachings of Jesus Christ known in China. I purpose to pursue this through prayerfully supporting the Lord’s work in China, as well as personally going to China as the Lord directs.”
Jennifer Smith, Alabama
“As a child of God, my first and highest purpose in life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. By dedicating my life to Him, I am living in a perpetual act of worship and service to the Lord.
“It is my life purpose to disciple younger women in both spiritual and home-life skills that will help them be successful in their lives. I have a burden for those who are saved but not walking in a personal relationship with the Savior. I desire to use my communication skills of writing, speaking, teaching, and creativity to give others an exciting, inspiring vision of Christianity, along with practical and organized ideas to accomplish it. I want to be an example that encourages others to live a life of delight in the Lord and bring glory to His Holy Name. My desire is to make disciples who are mighty in the Lord and who will in turn make strong disciples of their own, in order to mature Christians, change the world, enlarge His kingdom, and ultimately glorify God.”
Woody Robertson, Texas
“My heart’s desire is to love the Lord Jesus Christ with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength in order that I might fellowship with Him daily, follow His perfect will, and be the testimony that brings Him the most glory. By witness of the Lord’s clear hand of direction and past leading, I feel the strong burden and passion to guide parents and their children by inspiring vision to find purpose and fulfillment through seeking God’s plan for their lives. My heart cry is for the Christian families and young people of America. By passionately communicating Biblical truth and vision, my deepest desire is to lead a whole generation of fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters to stem the tide and stand in the gap for the glory of God.”
Monica Wallace, Texas
“I desire to love the Lord with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength and to develop a genuine love for others by seeking their success above my own. I endeavor to encourage young women in the ways of the Lord by seeking to be an ‘example of believers’ in word and in conduct. My goal is to encourage young women to walk closely with Jesus, to build loving family relationships, to seek purity of heart and actions, and to honor God with their music. By ministering though individual mentorship and discipleship, public speaking, and music, I desire that God would use me to raise up Godly young women who will greatly impact future generations and the world!”
Valerie Mueller, Illinois
“As a vessel to be used for God’s glory and honor, I purpose to remain always in His presence that I might have a fullness of joy and love to give. I desire to encourage and equip the weary, worn, isolated, overwhelmed, and forgotten to experientially know God’s grace, love, and joy, that they may raise up Godly generations to effectively serve and honor God. I desire to rejoice in times of suffering as opportunities to learn more about God’s love and joy so that I may be better able to encourage others in their times of need.”
Elizabeth Fox, California
“My goal is to live in daily fellowship with God, reveling in His unchanging, unconditional love for me and responding by loving Him with my whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. I desire that this love for God will overflow into a life of wholehearted, joyful, enthusiastic service for Him marked by total surrender and one hundred percent dedication to my Lord.
“I specifically want to live out my love for God by working with ‘normal’ young people who are in danger of being content with the average, lukewarm Christian life. I want to help them comprehend God’s incredible love for them and challenge, motivate, and encourage them to pursue a life of total dedication to the Lord. As young people grasp these concepts, I believe it will result in strong families, a reformation of American society, and great glory for God’s Name.”
