The Books of Psalms and Proverbs divide nicely into daily readings that correspond with the dates of the month. The following reading plan is a great option for personal or family devotions. Each day you will read five Psalms and one chapter of Proverbs.

• Psalms

  Begin with the Psalm that corresponds with the date*. For example, on the 15th of the month, read Psalm 15. Then, add 30 to that number to allocate the next Psalm. On the 15th, it will be Psalm 45. Continue adding 30 to identify the next Psalm for that day’s reading, until you have read five Psalms. So on the 15th of the month, you will read Psalms 15, 45, 75, 105, and 135.

• Proverbs

  Read the chapter that matches the date*. For example, on the 15th of the month, read Proverbs 15.

  * This reading schedule divides Psalms into 30 readings and Proverbs into 31 readings. Since the months differ in length (28, 29, 30, or 31 days), at times you will need to adjust your reading schedule at the end of the month. You might read a “double set” of chapters at the end of shorter months, and when the months have 31 days, you will not have a set of Psalms to read on the 31st day.

Reading the Psalms and Proverbs in this way allows you to deepen your prayer life and gain wisdom that applies to your circumstances. Since the situations you face each month will be unique, you will gain fresh insights from the Scriptures daily as you consider them in light of your current needs and questions.
